Local Painter James Moore Partners with Pacific Northwest Ballet…

Most days you’ll find James Moore painting landscapes on beautiful Whidbey Island. Recently the Coupeville artist is putting final strokes on a series of ballerinas, honoring Pacific Northwest Ballet (PNB) principal dancer Louise Nadeau. 

Ms. Nadeau joined PNB in 1990. Now, after a remarkable 19 years with PNB, Ms. Nadeau will dance her final PNB performance, “A Celebration of Louise Nadeau,” on June 7th at McCaw Hall.

Moore is best known for his impressionistic outdoor work. In fact he is a founding board member of the Plein Air Painters’ U.S. Open held each September on Whidbey Island. However, he and his wife love to hop a ferry to Seattle to enjoy cultural events such as Pacific Northwest Ballet. 

The first time Moore saw Ms. Nadeau dance he was moved by her grace and artistry. Once he learned of her retirement, he was inspired to showcase ballerinas on canvas as a tribute to Ms. Nadeau’s esteemed career. 

His collection of original paintings will be displayed and sold at McCaw Hall during DIRECTOR’s CHOICE and “A Celebration of Louise Nadeau,” the final performances of Pacific Northwest Ballet’s 2009-2010 season. Performances run May 28-June 7.

“I paint because I like discovering something’s unique beauty, as I see it, and then capturing my feelings about it in paint,” said Moore. “Ballet dancers are a favorite subject because of my appreciation for the continuous work that it takes to be a dancer, resulting in the grace and beauty of the dance.” 

Friends of James Moore will receive a 15% discount on tickets to DIRECTOR’s CHOICE, May 28 – June 7. There are no discounts for the June 7th evening performance featuring Ms. Nadeau.
