Concerts on the lane presents Joe Arnold on July 25th.

On July 25th at 3 pm Island Angel Chocolates presents Concerts on the Lane featuring Joe Arnold. Joe Arnold is Cuséami: Joe plays Native American Flutes and comes from a musical and spiritual background where the two combine to offer what he believes may actually be one of the universal truths, which brings emotional and spiritual healing to individuals. The gentle melodies of the flute can inspire deep contemplative feelings for those who are willing to listen. Joe has played flutes for more than 42 years and specifically Native American Flutes for 15 years.

Cuséami is a Raramuri word which means ‘touching the flutes’, an ancient word from Joe’s tribal ancestors sometimes known as Tarahumara who live in The Copper Canyon in Mexico.

“Tarahumara is the name given to these people by the Spanish during the 1,500’s. Raramuri is the traditional name for the Tarahumara who now live in Mexico. Raramuri has been translated to mean “Runners” and many from this tribe are ultra long distant competitors in foot races averaging 100 miles or more. The Raramuri are a gentle tribe of Indians that have lived in the Upper Sierra, mostly in the Copper Canyon, for over 10,000 years. There numbers stay just about the same at around 60,000 so there is a unique balance in life and death. The Raramuri are believed to be the purest and best-preserved ethnic group on the entire American continent. Their culture and spiritual values are a result of thousands of years of struggle, which has filled them with an intensity for life and a sense of harmony in human relations and in their relationship with nature, the likes of which our modern society, with all of its technological advancement, has been unable to understand or attain.”

Please join with Joe on his birthday celebrating the spirit of Cuséami for an afternoon of gentle inspirational Native American Flute music at Island Angel Chocolates Concerts on the Lane located behind the chocolate shop at 138 2nd Street in Langley.

Also available during the event is concessions by John and Annie Kirkham of Annie’s Concessions. They will be serving up hot dogs, hamburgers and nachos from their red and white cart.
