Whidbey Island Center for the Arts, under the leadership of Executive Director Stacie Burgua, presents Holiday Stories, at WICA, 565 Camano Avenue, Langley, WA, December 11 - 20, 2009.
This season, WICA offers three original adaptations of holiday favorites:
- How the Grinch Stole Christmas! adapted and directed by Kristina Sutherland
The Grinch, whose heart is two sizes too small, hates Whoville’ s holiday celebrations, and plans to steal all the presents to prevent Christmas from coming. To his amazement, Christmas comes anyway, and the Grinch discovers the true meaning of the holiday.
- ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas adapted and directed by Ann Deacon
Everyone knows the famous words: “‘Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house ..” Clement C. Moore’s famous poem (written in 1822) has been a holiday classic ever since.
With special guests Nymbol and Nymphaea (from “Nymbol’s Secret Garden”) and a sneak peek at Nymbol’s upcoming Christmas book! Nymbol will be joined by Rainey Lewis for the premiere of Lewis’ new song, “Christmas Mystery”.
- A Child’s Christmas in Wales adapted and directed by Michael Barker
A Child’s Christmas in Wales is a lyrical journey back to the magic and marvel of boyhood where no two moments were ever alike and life was embraced with belief instead of doubt. On a special Christmas Eve, a grandfather shares heartwarming memories with his dearly loved grandson. In one evening he does more than recall his cherished youth … he relives it.
With musical guests Siri Bardarson and James Hinkley performing a selection of British, Celtic, and Welsh folk songs, and discussing the history of English holiday music.
Prior to each matinee, kids and families are encouraged to visit Elf’s Workshop to make holiday crafts and gifts. Parents — contact the WICA Ticket Office about dropping off the kids while you finish up (or begin) your holiday shopping!
Tickets range in price from $10 to $12, with discounts for families, and are available from www.WICAonline.com or 360.221.8268 – 800/638.7631.
